I am a geophysicist specializing in seismic imaging of the interior of Earth and other planets and moons in our solar system. Currently, I am focusing on seismic modeling of Europa, an ice covered moon of Jupiter that is thought to host a subsurface ocean of liquid water. Europa is a target for a future NASA lander mission, and my work aims to develop techniques in which we can use an onboard seismic instrument to probe the depth to the subsurface ocean, as well as to characterize seismicity within the icy shell to better understand the forces that deform Europa’s surface. I also have a continued interest in deep Earth seismology, and I am particularly interested in imaging the crust and mantle below hotspots in order to determine the physical conditions that give rise to this unusual style of volcanism.
