Kathryn Gansler
Katie graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in political science in 2014. As a long-time NASA and space enthusiast, she decided to return to school for a second bachelor’s degree in astronomy from the University of Maryland to gain the technical knowledge necessary for a career in planetary science. She has had four internships at NASA, where she gained experience with using machine learning techniques to identify and classify surface images of the Earth (Greenland) and Europa. Her research interests focus on understanding how we can use geophysical inversions to detect and understand surface and subsurface features on planetary bodies from gravity measurements taken by orbiters.
